It’s Halloween season and even people’s names are getting spooky. I just got a greeting from one of my most lively dead friends. He let me know he was near by name-dropping through a recent Reiki client and again at the Green Reiki Circle. As eerie as that may sound, it was heart warming. Keeping the lines of communication open with friends and family who have passed away is a common custom among our people. There are plenty of ghost whispers in our friends group who see spirit and talk with the dead. You probably do too if you have anyone on the other side.
When my new client booked an online Reiki appointment her name came across as classically American like Sandy, Cathy, Pam and Jane, with maybe a muted derivative of Catholic Saints. Normal enough, except that her first and last name were virtually identical to that of my dead friend’s wife. Change an “eh” to and “ih” and it’s the same name on your lips. A skinny cursive “e” in the middle of her last name, or a loopy “i” is all it would take for and exact signature match between the two women. All three of them have the same set of double consonant initials. Her address was pretty normal too; she’s from nearby Mill Creek, the only “creek” town around. My connection to this particular family of friends: Wolf Creek. The woman who came to see me learned Reiki Level One years ago and had been waiting for her retirement to pursue its study again. It was her own quest, in her own time that brought her to the doors of Circle Green this witching season, when the veils between the worlds are open. In wee few days between her appointment and Halloween the Green Reiki Circle also took place. During the Reiki Circle, a fellow dreamer who is a native healer was telling an offhand story to the group. I was standing across the treatment table from him when out of the blue he uttered the uncanny words: Wolf Creek. Spirit has its own secret language. Mostly it tugs your attention towards the things that convey its message, either literally or symbolically. Haunting is a spiritual presence that is usually attributed to unhappy souls trapped on the earth plane or time sequence. Haunting also describes the soulful awareness of our ties to love that have come unbound into the mist of unrealized possibilities. Open communications with our non-incarnate loved ones can be very uplifting if you can accept the down side of it that no matter how they touch our hearts and minds, their heart no longer beats there beside us like it used to. Ethereal meetings such as these can be wistfully sweet, even when laced with melancholia. Being met by a ghostly specter is almost always unsettling, even when it’s a pet or person you know and love. There’s a strange feeling that accompanies being summoned by the Portal of Death. Contact between the worlds usually raises the hair on your arms and the back of your neck. Even when it’s simply the cosmic equivalent of a face book message from a dead friend, the expression on your face will say you’ve seen a ghost. I can only imagine what it feels like for the dead to touch the warm world of the living. Wondering how many layers of meaning needs to be piled upon a coincidence before it becomes a genuine message from beyond, is like asking how many times does the phone have to ring before you’re going answer it. It’s not a number - it’s a feeling. The repeating echoes of the message serve as a deepening reminder. One word is enough to startle the crap out of you if you’re paying attention when it arrives. Talk to anyone with extrasensory abilities and we will tell you that it is a doubled-edged sword. Creating an unflinching harmony with psychic connection takes time and practice and an almost a morbid curiosity to know the dark as well as the light. Most people turn down their psychic vision in order to save themselves from overload and inconvenient truths. Want to hear more from Spirit, we can help you learn to listen. Getting too much input from outside sources – we can help you with your cosmic call-blocker. Smoochy and I specialize in helping make sense of the weird and wonderful things that don’t make sense to most of your friends. We call it life-coaching, spiritual-mentoring and Reiki apprenticeship. More than anything, this public service announcement is to remind you that your dearly-departeds still like to visit, especially during the holy-days starting with Halloween, the Day of the Dead, All Saints Day and continuing well through Funk-mas. They’ll be coming all the way from the underworld to see you again - in the flesh. Be polite, pull out a chair and pour them one of whatever you’re having. Tell them you love them too. Living or dead, we like to be welcomed. Pour one for Smoochy too; he so loves to haunt you. He says Trick-or-Treat!
