2016 - Say It Like You Mean It!

The dawning of 2016 feels like it comes with a very definite status change. There has been a twist in the plot here and we’re on to a new chapter. The attitudes and energies invoked now will become the archetypical characters that you will play-out in this year’s unfolding story of your life. It’s time to write your own screenplay unless you want to get caught up in someone else’s classic drama.
 
You can be the heroine, the innocent, the artist, the victor, the villain, the ruler and slave, to name a few. We are capable of playing all the parts and do so sometimes all at once. It’s up to us how we decide to cast ourselves in the telling of our own lives. The power of rewriting the pages of other books that refer to our character may or may not be within our sphere of publishing influence. Some old-school textbooks never burn. Think about your critics as a backhanded compliment, at least you know that there is somebody out there who cares enough to scathe you. Love the haters until they hate themselves for loving you.
 
The Rebel is in my personal pantheon of archetypical favorites. I like to embody the fiery Chi of Che Guevara and liberate myself from oppression. One of my major themes rests on my passion for perpetuating the propaganda of Love. I’m a closet iconoclast. Ok, not really, my closets are filled with velvets, woolens, silks and shoes. I’m an outright iconoclast with about as much respect for the status quo as Johnny Rotten himself. In high school I wore a “God Save The Queen” t-shirt with my Levi 501’s that I got on the Ave. in Seattle. I love that despicable man. The inspiration of “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols” helped me perfect the F-Bomb in the early 80’s. Johnny Rotten is one of my many red-haired role models, last reported still dying his hair to match the flames of hell and showing his bare bottom on stage.
 
Go ahead and choose a few new roles to play this year or just change the scenery, ad a roman numeral after the title and go disguised as yourself. You also get to choose the moral of your story, if there is one. Picking is the fun part!  Be who ever you want to be, just as long as you remember that it’s really you on stage, not some Hollywood body-double. We practice the authenticity of our roles everyday with the things that we do and the words that we say. The part that you play is the way that you stay even when you drop the mask. So when your line comes up, say it like you mean it.
