Summer has finally arrived and so have a bounty of disease carrying mosquitos and other biting insects. Those pesky critters love the same things you love - warmth, water and the great outdoors. Most of all they adore biting you, which is not only annoying, but can also be dangerous! Especially to those who seem to taste extra sweet.
I live on a lake and spend my summer on the water. Before discovering the natural essential oil insect repellent Bite Guard by Circle Green, I was covered in mosquito bites. I refused to poison myself with DEET and the natural repellents I tried simply fell short. Now I take my little “magic bottle” of Bite Guard outside with me. After a few swipes on my skin with the convenient roller ball, mosquitos leave me alone. An added bonus? The essential oil blend of Eucalyptus, Lavender, Geranium and May Chang have an uplifting and revitalizing effect on the wearer. Aromatherapy for the win!
Don’t shy away from the great outdoors this summer - indulge in it with a little help from Circle Green's Bite Guard

If you miss your favorite people, now would be a great time to extend your Family Tree and circle of friends – to the Forest.
Finding physical companionship in these times of isolation and quarantine due to the current pandemic can be difficult. I'm already way too used to eating dinner alone and watching bad news. Wine, weed, weighted blankets, and video conferencing are not enough. I need a hug.
Squeeze a Tree for 30-seconds - it will make you smile, both of you.
Fortunately Embracing the positive power of Nature keeps me connected with my loved-ones in a happy, healthy way. The Icelandic Forestry Service is encouraging people to hug trees while social distancing measures prevent them from hugging other people.
Read the article here: https://www.icelandreview.com/nature-travel/forest-service-recommends-hugging-trees-while-you-cant-hug-others
“When you hug [a tree], you feel it first in your toes and then up your legs and into your chest and then up into your head,” enthuses forest ranger Þór Þorfinnsson. “It’s such a wonderful feeling of relaxation and then you’re ready for a new day and new challenges.”
You might wonder what a pesky little human has to offer a living giant when it comes to power hugging and happiness. Here’s a little ELF Walk secret. Like everybody else, trees liked to be liked, and appreciate your appreciation. Most of my leafy green friends yearn more for respect than they do for adoration yet nearly none of them would ever turn down a hug however, even if they could.
Truth be told – Trees love hugs as much as you do . . . except for a few like Grumpy Tree and the Whomping Willow who are rather unfriendly. For now we’ll keep our distance, our social distance from humans and proceed cautiously when it comes to hostile trees.
Stay safe, have fun….
Aromatherapists have referred to Thieves Oil as the ultimate anti-plague blend since before it wasn’t funny.
Reference to Thieves Oil dates back to a band of 15th century French perfumers gone bad. They took to robbing the homes and graves of Bubonic plague victims. The looters were eventually captured. The judge in the matter was more interested in avoiding his own death sentence than punishing thieves.
The perfumers’ lives were spared in exchange for the secret spell of protection they had against the Black Death. The four thieves handed over the recipe for their botanically blended concoction and went free.
In 1413 only Herbalist & Outlaws knew about essential oils and the antimicrobial properties of spices, citrus, and herbs. Smoochy and I may be blowing our only get-out-of-jail-free card here but we’re going to share the best anti-fungal, germ-killing, immune-boosting blend of essential oil we know.
Like any good recipe or 15th century legend, it can be changed according to taste and pantry pickings. The very popular “On Guard” by doTERRA uses sweet orange. Some swear by spiking the mix with tea-tree or lavender. Our blend, GREEN THIEVES OIL puts different twist the traditional Thieves Oil Blend.
Circle Green chooses and uses Lime over Lemon and Orange in our Thieves Oil Blend because we feel the zestiness of Lime’s green peel bites a little harder and a little deeper than other citrus essential oils.
Green Thieves Oil is now available everywhere for judges, outlaws and home Aromatherapists. Buy it and use it, or brew it with the following recipe.
Mix it by the drop or by the bottle and diffuse as desired. Green Thieves Oil Blend is the ideal non-toxic addition to hand sanitizer and natural household hygiene. Blend up to 3% into hand lotion or in a spray mist bottle with isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or water. (.5ml essential oil per 1oz. carrier) In kitchen terms that’s one-eighth teaspoon of essential oil (0.6 ml) per 1-ounce of liquid, lotion or salve.
Green Thieves Oil Blend Recipe:
To mix, add all the essential oil varieties into a single glass bottle one by one. Cap tightly and roll the bottle back and forth in your hands to warm & blend the oils. Gently invert and agitate the oil, then let it rest. You and your Thieves Oil are now ready for anything.

Reiki energy has a harmonizing vibration that resonates with your body’s natural electromagnetic system. Reiki Attunement is the process of aligning the Reiki initiate to this silent hum of harmony. Once attuned by a Reiki master teacher the person can then find the frequency at will. Channeling the Reiki vibration is a simple matter of bringing mind and body together.
Call it with your mind, feel it in your hands and body. Simple, yes. Easy? Most meditators I know say otherwise. Clearing your mind seams only to make enough room for something else to fall in and take up your brain space. Reiki Attunement changes all that.
Nature abhors a vacuum about as much as I do. What I have learned from practicing Reiki is that revving your kundalini doesn’t have to be a chore. I found mustering up the image of a silent, empty void for moments-on-end to be difficult, if not completely boring. I much prefer to quietly settle into the flow of Reiki and let the golden glow fill my mind and body.
Virtually every aspect of Reiki is written somewhere in a book. There are volumes of videos on maintaining healthy Chakras and innumerable illustrations of hand-positions for giving Reiki treatments to others, yourself, and your pets.
Although accumulating information is valuable reading about Reiki lacks the key component of this healing art. Reiki energy can only be conveyed through experience. Reiki Attunement is the process of bringing the energy of Reiki and the student of Reiki, together.
Registration for Level One Reiki Attunement is now open.
The March 28th Reiki Attunement is available as a refresher course for all levels of Reiki practitioners, as part of a Reiki Independent Study Program, and to new members of the Circle Green Reiki Apprenticeship Program.
I made a heart connection with the little birds who frequent my garden this winter and told them that if they ever wanted to cozy up in the eaves of my house for the night they were certainly welcome.
The Heart Connection is a simple meditation that merges your heart with the heart of nature. We do a heart connection before every ELF Walk to open our eyes to the Faery Realms. I touch-in through my heart instead of my head whenever I want to "talk" with something or someone in a non-verbal way.
Within a week of announcing the invitation to my little friends with a Heart Connection I saw something that I have never seen in my life, until now.
The Power of the heart connection

hellebore & other herbal inspiration
Temperatures are dropping and the Hellebore are right on time. The "winter rose" is an inspiring perennial flower that begins blooming at winter solstice and keeps blooming right on through the sun-starved days of January and February, on until spring.
In Snohomish we're covered in a blanket of snow and staying close to the fire.
The Hellebore, crocus, and brave little snowdrops are biding their time until the south wind wins again and fields are again green.
Thanks for reading The Smoochy Blog.
